Behind the name: The River Eea winds a beautiful path down the Cartmel Valley and out into Morecambe Bay. Pronounced to rhyme with ‘ear’, the name is thought to have been derived from a Viking word for Eel and these fascinating creatures can sometimes be seen from the bridges that span the river where it runs through Cartmel village.
